How to talk to anyone at a youth club by Youth First Influencer, Mckenzie

Talking to new people can be a bit daunting sometimes...we've all been there. Once you get past those initial moments of introduction, it normally becomes much easier. A great place to meet new people is at your local youth club or adventure playground. But where do you start? What do you say?

We've got you covered! Here are some tips on how to talk to anyone at your local youth club by Youth First influencer, Mckenzie. 

Tip 1 - Stay off your phone!

Body language is important. Why? Because being on your phone can make you appear uninterested to other people - no one wants to give that impression do they? 

Being off your phone will make you look more approachable to other young people who are probably also feeling the same way that you are. Take some time away from your phone and this will help you connect with others and be more aware of the people around you. 

Being distracted can also make you miss out on opportunities! What if something funny or amazing happens and you miss it?!

Tip 2 - Get involved in activities

At youth clubs there are always lots of fun activities for you to take part in. For example., there's a variety of people who play sports and this is a great way to make some new friends. It's also a great chance to relate to other people who are interested in similar things to you. 

So, look for something you're interested in, or, try something new. This way you won't feel left out. Plus if it's sports, then you can build your athletic skills!

Tip 3 - Ask a youth worker to introduce you to other young people. 

Another great idea is to ask a youth worker to introduce you to people - you can even ask them to place you in an activity (Tip 2). If you do this, you'll meet other people that happen to live locally to you. A youth worker could also tell you about other activities at the site or across clubs in Lewisham.

The easiest way to meet people is by trying new things - and don't be afraid to start conversations with others!
