Youth First are awarded Silver from the LGBT Foundation’s Pride in Practice initiative

During Pride month, Youth First are pleased to announce being awarded Silver from the LGBT Foundation’s Pride in Practice initiative. This is for our work with young people who identify as LGBTQ+.

Statistics show 45% of trans young people and 22% of LGBt+ young people have attempted to take their own lives at a significantly higher rate than any other age group. Additionally, according to the LGBT Foundation, 24% of homeless people aged 16-24 identify as LGBT+ and in 69% of these, parental rejection was a main contributing factor.  

Having somewhere where you can freely be is critical to emotional wellbeing.  Youth First believe it is important that LGBT+ young people feel at home and welcomed across all of our sites and activities.  To this end, we are really pleased that our team have undergone awareness training and put in place additional processes to ensure a positive welcome for young people.
