In memory of Sir Ian Mills (1935 - 2022)

We are sad to share the passing of Youth First's founding Chair and benefactor Sir Ian Mills (1935 - 2022) on Sunday 6 March 2022, aged 86.

Sir Ian was a tremendous ambassador to Lewisham organisations and causes that aim to create a more equal and fairer society. His commitment to the community was recognised by the London Borough of Lewisham when he was presented the prestigious Freedom of the Borough award in 2017. 

Sir Ian Mills was our founding Chair and fundamental in setting up and developing Youth First, by generously offering his time, expertise, and even personal funding. He always advocated for young people, especially those he felt weren't getting a fair chance to excel. In 2017, Sir Ian established a £2 million trust fund dedicated to the memory of his wife Elizabeth. The fund allows their influence to live on and uses their life savings to help Lewisham’s young people thrive. We will continue to honour his memory and remember his legacy through our work at Youth First.

He will be missed greatly by all at Youth First, who send their best wishes and condolences to his family. Funeral arrangements are to be confirmed.
