Youth First was born from the passion of youth and play workers to create a means to sustain and ideally grow youth work for young people aged 8-19 (up to 25 with SEND), first in Lewisham and now beyond.
This is a great opportunity to join Youth First a respected local charity to work and improve the lives of young people in Lewisham and surrounding areas. Youth First’s mission is to support and improve young people’s lives through positive activities; adventure play and the provision of safe spaces.
We are now seeking to recruit two full time Youth & Play Workers to deliver high quality and an innovative range of youth services for young people in our detached teams.
Working Pattern: 36 hours per week (rota to be agreed between 9:00am – 9:00pm Mon - Fri)
Salary: £25,589 per annum plus excellent benefits
Job role & Responsibilities
Your role will be to get out and about on the streets of Lewisham to support and deliver our outreach and streetbased programmes for young people across the borough. You will be working with local schools and communities; supporting and delivering workshops and building relationships with our partners in the police, social services and other community organisations.
Your role will be essential to building the confidence of young people in developing their social development, safeguarding and early intervention to prevent escalation of young people’s needs.

Essential requirements

- Working knowledge and understanding of the principles of youth work
- Experience of supporting, delivering and evaluating high quality sessions and activities for young people from a variety of settings e.g. youth centres; adventure playgrounds; street based and outreach
- To possess the skills and confidence to deliver workshops to various members of the community (e.g. young people, parents, community partners)
- Experience of working with a wide range of young people, including those who may be experiencing difficulties in their lives, and of addressing equal opportunities issues in a non-formal learning environment.
- A strong commitment to young people and a thorough knowledge of the issues facing young people
- As this role is based in the community, you will need to be physically able to meet the demands of the role
